On 28 October 2026, Google announced it is bringing ads in AI Mode to Pakistan. AI Mode is Google Search’s conversational, chatbot-style experience, where users ask a question, get a long AI-written answer, and then ask follow-up questions. Until now, that experience was ad-free outside the United States. That changes now — and Google AI Mode ads Pakistan is something every business that relies on Google Search needs to understand.
The announcement came in a post on Google’s Ads & Commerce blog by Shashi Thakur, vice president and general manager of Google Search Ads and Ads on Google Experiences. Here is what was announced, what is different for Pakistan, and what your business should do about it.
1What Google Announced
Google is scaling ads in AI Mode to ten new countries: Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore. In the fourth quarter of 2026, it plans to expand to further locales, including Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom.
Two things are happening at the same time:
- Ads in AI Mode go global. When a conversation in AI Mode turns to shopping or another commercial topic, sponsored results can now appear inside or alongside the AI-generated answer, clearly labelled “Sponsored”.
- Multiturn ads launch in the United States. Ads can now appear in the answers to follow-up questions, not just the first answer of a conversation. This part is US-only for now; Google has not said the same change starts simultaneously in the new countries.
Ads in AI Mode first launched in the United States in May 2025. What is new is the advertising layer leaving the US.
| The ten new countries | Coming in Q4 2026 |
|---|---|
| Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore | Brazil, Mexico, United Kingdom |
| Pakistan: text ads only (per Google’s Ads Help documentation) | Multiturn ads: United States only, for now |
2The Pakistan Detail: Text Ads Only, for Now
Here is the detail Pakistani businesses need to get right: while Google’s announcement lists Pakistan among the ten new countries, its Ads Help documentation draws a narrower line for this market. According to reports of that documentation by Phandroid and Unite.AI, Pakistan is listed for text ads only in AI Mode and AI Overviews.
In practical terms, that means:
- Pakistani users should expect to see sponsored text ads in AI Mode first.
- Do not assume that every Shopping format available in the United States — product listings with pictures and prices — is live in Pakistan on day one.
- The supported language listed for these ads is English, and Google notes the list may not be exhaustive, so the position could change.
This distinction matters for planning. A Pakistani online store should not yet design around product photos appearing inside AI answers. A business running text-based search ads, on the other hand, is in the part of the rollout that actually applies here.
Pakistan gets text ads only in AI Mode for now, according to Google’s Ads Help documentation as reported by Phandroid and Unite.AI. Plan around text ads, not product photos with prices, until Google says otherwise.
3Why Google Is Doing This Now
Google’s own explanation is about how search behaviour is changing. According to its blog post, queries in AI Mode are, on average, three times longer than traditional searches. People are no longer typing two or three keywords; they are describing what they want in full sentences and then refining it through follow-ups. Longer, more conversational queries give Google more context about intent — and more moments where a relevant sponsored result can fit.
Google also says its research shows people are comfortable with ads in AI Mode and find them highly relevant, and that click-through rates are already similar between sponsored and organic product list items within AI Mode. Treat that last claim carefully: it is Google’s own internal US data, not an independently verified industry benchmark, and it describes product listings in the US market, not text ads in Pakistan.
There is a business backdrop too. Phandroid’s report notes Google’s search revenue growth slowed to 12% in the third quarter, down from 19% in the first, even as search queries grew at their fastest yearly rate in five years. More queries, slower revenue growth, and a new ad surface inside AI answers — that combination is exactly why this expansion is happening now.
4What This Means for Pakistani Businesses
Organic visibility is getting more crowded. AI Mode already answers questions directly, which means fewer users may click through to websites at all. Now, sponsored results will sit inside those same answers. For commercial searches, the competition for attention is no longer just the ten blue links — it is the AI answer, plus the sponsored result inside it.
Paid search gets a new placement, not a new campaign. According to Google’s Ads Help documentation, advertisers do not need to create new campaigns or separate budgets for AI Mode. Existing Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns are automatically eligible to serve in AI Overviews and AI Mode through the normal Google Ads auction. You also cannot buy AI Mode placements on their own, and you cannot exclude them either — a point Phandroid’s report flags clearly. If you run Google Ads, your ads may already be eligible; if you do not, this is not a separate product you need to buy into.
SEO still matters — arguably more. If AI answers are where customers now start, then the content Google’s AI draws on becomes the new front page. That is the same work as good SEO, with a new emphasis: clear, direct answers to real questions, trustworthy business information, and content written for a person, not a keyword counter. Our local SEO guide for Pakistani businesses covers the foundations — a complete Google Business Profile, consistent business details, and genuine reviews — and all of it still applies in an AI-answer world.
5What Your Business Should Do Now
You do not need a new strategy overnight. You need five practical steps:
- Check whether your Google Ads are already eligible. If you run Search, Shopping or Performance Max campaigns, review them in Google Ads and confirm they are serving normally. Remember you cannot opt in or out of AI Mode placements specifically — eligibility is automatic through the auction. If your campaigns are paused or poorly structured, fix that first; a new placement will not rescue a broken campaign.
- Make your ads answer-like, not keyword-stuffed. AI Mode queries are three times longer than traditional searches, according to Google. That means the searches triggering your ads increasingly look like questions and descriptions, not two-word keywords. Review your ad copy and landing pages: do they answer the question a customer actually asked, in plain language, on the first screen? If not, rewrite them.
- Strengthen the content Google’s AI can cite. Publish clear, factual, helpful content that answers the questions your customers ask — pricing, comparisons, how-tos, and honest pros and cons. Pages that already do this well are the ones most likely to be surfaced, linked or summarised in AI answers. If you have not looked at what your marketing actually costs, our digital marketing cost guide for Pakistan is a good place to start benchmarking your spend.
- Keep your business information airtight. AI answers pull from the web’s record of your business. A Google Business Profile with wrong hours, an old phone number, or no reviews is a weak signal in any search format — and a worse one when an AI is summarising you. Check your profile, website contact page and social profiles, and make them match exactly.
- Track, don’t guess. Over the next few weeks, watch three things: your Google Ads performance, your organic traffic and Search Console queries, and — most importantly — your actual enquiries and sales. If AI Mode changes your numbers, it will show up there first. Adjust budgets on evidence, not on headlines.
6The Bottom Line
Google bringing AI Mode ads to Pakistan is a real shift, but it is an evolution, not a reset. The same fundamentals still decide who wins: be findable, be trustworthy, answer the customer’s question better than the next result, and measure what actually brings in business.
